October Is National Physical Therapy Month!

October 5, 2017

Message from APTA President Sharon Dunn, PT, PhD

National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM) is an annual opportunity to recognize the physical therapy profession's efforts to "transform society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience." I, on behalf of APTA staff, components, and the Board of Directors, would like to thank you for all that you do every day to improve the health, mobility, and quality of life of the patients you serve locally, nationally, and globally. National Physical Therapy Month 2017

Despite extensive efforts to raise awareness of and address the human toll of the opioid epidemic, Americans continue to be prescribed and to abuse opioids at alarming rates. This October, APTA will carry on raising awareness of physical therapy as a safe and effective alternative to opioids for the long-term treatment of chronic pain via its award-winning #ChoosePT campaign.

You can learn about #ChoosePT and find ways to support APTA's efforts locally by visiting the online Campaign Toolkit.

Here's a great way to get started.

2017 PT Day of Service

Consider celebrating NPTM by participating in the 2017 PT Day of Service that takes place on Saturday, October 14. APTA is a proud partner of PT Day of Service, a global event founded by physical therapists in 2015. Whether you are hosting an NPTM event, volunteering at a pro bono clinic, or serving the community by cleaning up a park, you’ll be joining with PTs, PTAs, and students of physical therapy across the world who are actively making a difference in their communities on or around that day.
